Angerer Elected State Director of Women in Government

LANSING – State Representative Kathy Angerer (D-Dundee) has been elected by her fellow legislators to serve as a state director of the national nonprofit organization Women in Government.

"As a State Representative, one of my top priorities is fighting for initiatives that will make Michigan an even better place for all of us to live, work and raise a family," Angerer said. "It's an honor to be elected to leadership in an organization that brings together leaders from both sides of the aisle to achieve important goals such as increasing women's access to health care and education."

Women in Government, an organization of state legislators, provides a nonpartisan platform for bringing female policymakers together to share best practices and raise awareness on issues such as fighting cervical cancer and increasing access to higher education. It provides leadership opportunities, expert forums and educational resources to address public policy issues.

"The group's nonpartisan and innovative approach to problem-solving and working collaboratively is what we need to strengthen our communities," Angerer said. "By being part of a group supporting women leaders, I also hope to encourage more young women to become lawmakers and policymakers."

As chair of the Michigan House Health Policy Committee, Angerer promotes initiatives to increase access to quality health care for all Michigan residents. The Dundee lawmaker has also taken a leadership role in creating some of the state's boldest initiatives to get Michigan's economy back on track – serving, for example, as a lead House negotiator last year as the Legislature worked to find a replacement for the state's outdated Single Business Tax. The resulting Michigan Business Tax, which the governor signed into law last July, will create jobs by rewarding investment and protecting Michigan-based companies.
