Angerer Appointed to National Advisory Council

Dundee lawmaker to advocate for Michigan in national setting

LANSING – House Majority Floor Leader Kathy Angerer (D-Dundee) today was named to the Women's Legislative Network Advisory Council of the National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL) by House Speaker Andy Dillon (D-Redford Township).

"It is a great honor to join my colleagues on this advisory council," Angerer said. "Michigan's government has a long tradition of strong women, and I'm proud to continue that legacy. I look forward to working with my colleagues from other states to address the important issues facing women today."

As a member of the Advisory Council, Angerer will serve as a liaison between Michigan and the Women's Legislative Network. She and other members will promote the participation, empowerment, and leadership of female legislators across the country.

While the network does not work specifically to change state policies, it allows female legislators to discuss timely issues and learn from one another's experiences. This year, the network is focusing on what legislators can do to support the financial stability of women in their districts.

Founded in 1975, the NCSL is a bipartisan organization that provides research and opportunities for policymakers to exchange ideas on problems facing states. The organization also advocates for state governments before Congress and other federal agencies.

"Serving on this council will allow me to advocate for women throughout Michigan and our nation," Angerer said. "I look forward to using this role both to improve the lives of women in Michigan and to encourage more women to become lawmakers and leaders."
