LANSING – State Representative Kathy Angerer (D-Dundee) praised the opening of the new Toyota Technical Center in York Township today, a major economic development project that brought 400 new jobs to Michigan and will create 400 more in the next two years.
"This is a great day not only for our community, but for all of Michigan," Angerer said. "In addition to the hundreds of workers already employed by Toyota Technical Center Research and Development operations across the state, this facility will create 400 new jobs and has the potential to create many more. Creating jobs now is my top priority as a lawmaker, and these are the kind of high-tech, high-demand jobs I'm committed to bringing to Michigan for our working families."
The Toyota Technical Center will help Toyota provide greater engineering capacity to meet the increasing needs of North American consumers. In addition to creating 400 new jobs now for Michigan workers, the facility is expected to create 400 more jobs over the next two years. Washtenaw and Monroe county communities could see additional job growth in the coming years from companies and suppliers that work closely with Toyota.
With the help of the Michigan Economic Development Corp., Toyota built the facility on a 690-acre redeveloped brownfield site. The site is now home to a world-class research and development facility and thousands of trees to create an environmentally pleasing campus.
"We all know Michigan has the hardest-working, most dedicated workforce in the country – that's why Toyota chose to invest in our state," Angerer said."By investing in our workers and creating the best-educated workforce in the world, we can make Michigan a magnet for good-paying jobs and a leader in the 21st century global economy."
