Witwer Receives Hunger Free Michigan Award
LANSING — State Rep. Angela Witwer (Delta Township) was presented with the Hunger Free Michigan Award at the Food Bank Council’s Michigan Harvest Gathering Luncheon. The luncheon is held annually to cap off the Michigan Harvest Gathering (MHG), an annual statewide campaign that raises food and funds for Michigan’s emergency food response. Since its inception in 1991, the MHG campaign has raised over 81 million meals to help those in need.
“It is an honor and privilege to be recognized by a group of people who have proven their unwavering commitment to this important cause,” said Witwer. Hunger and food insecurity is a serious issue in communities all across our state, but if we continue to work together to find solutions to this problem, I believe we can begin to make a real difference in the lives of many.”
Earlier this year, Witwer introduced a bill to restore tax credits for charitable donations to homeless shelters, food banks, food kitchens and other similar entities. Witwer also spoke at the Food Bank Council of Michigan’s Hunger Solutions Day event in March.
